Words:Adedosu 'kenzy' Adekunle
It was the long awaited smashing debut album from Nigeria singe alike Babyface and look alike Asa "Bez Idakula", popularly known as Bez, was officially unveiled in Lagos with a terrific live performance to a teeming and highly appreciative audience at swanky hang-out; SS Lounge on Sunday July 24th 2011.
The show, which opened officially with a rousing performance by fellow CAMP label mate; Stan Iyke with his beautiful rendition of ‘Love quito.’ Speaking on stage, just before Bez’s performance, enigmatic producer Cobhams Asuquo said ‘I’m glad that we at CAMP (Cobhams Asuquo Music Productions) can finally bring this incredible piece of work to you. Bez’s album has been a long time coming; the years of sacrifice, hard work and unlimited creativity have finally paid off.’
Speaking further, he said ‘Bez is a rare breed of one of those musicians. Asides his obvious talent, creativity and hard work he is also a very very good person. He has contributed a lot to ensure that this project is brought to light and we are incredibly proud of him.’
Performing never-been-heard songs such as the head bopping ‘The Good, The Bad, The Ugly, the achingly beautiful ‘Stronger.’, the groovy, upbeat ‘This This This’ and the incredibly soulful ‘Over You.’ Bez gave a fantastic account of himself through his imaginative lyrics, excellent stage craft and undeniable talent. He also performed crowd favourites such as ‘Super Sun’ – performed with Ice Prince, ‘More You’, ‘Stop Pretending’ and ‘Zuciya Daya’ – which he co-performed with his sister and another member of the audience. On the whole the event was a thoroughly enjoyable and memorable one; in the words of an excited fan ‘the event was well worth the price of the ticket.’
Celebrities who were present at the event include Audu Maikori, CEO Chocolate City, Basket Mouth, Sound Sultan, West African Idol Winner; Timi Dakolo, IcePrince Zamani, Tiwa Savage, Eric Arubayi, Ace Comdian, Jedi Ayo, Wana Udoabang of Inspiration FM, The Rooftop Mc’s Yvonne ‘Vixen’ Ekwere of STV and a host of others.
