Dr Conrad Murray has been jailed for four years for the involuntary manslaughter of music legend Michael Jackson.
The personal physician to the late star was sentenced in the Los Angeles County Jail by presiding judge Michael E. Pastor, three weeks after being pronounced guilty. He will go on to serve the stipulated time consecutively for a period of two years.
Judge Pastor cited that the pop star died because Dr Murray failed to perform his duties.
The prosecuting counsel had asked that the court sentence Murray to a maximum of four years and also pay a sum of $100M, the estimated amount Michael Jackson could have earned if he was alive. The judge however felt unsure about the amount and will be resolved later.
Judge Pastor ruled Murray must pay an $800 fine, a $30 court security fee, and a $40 criminal conviction assessment.
Murray, who wasn’t granted bail after he was pronounced guilty on November 7, stared on in the courtroom with an expressionless face as the sentence was read. Comments on various social networks say the sentencing might have been highly influenced by the fame of the victim.
‘It is in the peoples position that his (Conrad Murray) imprisonment is warranted‘, Los Angeles County District Attorney Steve Cooley said.
‘The real verdict will come down not on planet Earth … the Lord will take care of what he needs to take care of‘, late Michael’s elder brother Marlon Jackson said.
Throughout the six week court case, Murray chose not to testify and was quoted to have said he ‘was not responsible for the death of Michael Jackson’.
The Houston-based doctor was hired to be Jackson’s personal physician in preparation of the legendary King of Pop’s comeback concerts. Autopsy reports state that Jackson, 51 died in his L.A home after suffering cardiac arrest as a result of acute propofol intoxication.

Things are not always clear cut. There is a bit of true in everything. In the bizarre world of Michael Jackson we may never know what’s true and what’s false with absolute certitude. The bottom line is, whether you are rich or poor, free or in jail, we all try to live another day and the “situation” we are in becomes our world; we adapt. Michael failed at that, surely he was like a great dinosaur, and like the dinosaurs he became extinct because he couldn’t adapt. Michael Jackson had major issues, he didn't know who he was, but for most people out there it's easier to believe a simple lie rather than a complicated truth. Dr. Murray is not the only greedy person in the never-ending MJ saga. Greed… this is the crooked timber of humanity. In the crux of this drama I would like to jump from that into another shameful exploitation of MJ.
