DAVIDO BOUGHT "GOBE" SONG FOR N500K?

 Words:Adedosu 'kenzy' Adekunle

The internet is currently buzzing over Davido‘s new single ‘Gobe‘ which he officially released yesterday February, 25, 2013 but that’s not all that causing him to trend on social network Twitter.

Hours after the release, another version quite similar to the pop star’s surfaced online so KREST began snooping around and asking questions – apparently the same song also titled Gobewas released a year ago by an upcoming singer-producer named Password.

Password (who gained little buzz after featuring on Darey’s ‘Style na style’ remix) had made online release for the same song in July 2011 but it seemed not to have garnered any buzz back then. Sources tell us Password who produced and wrote the first version of ‘Gobe’ allegedly sold the song to Davido for a sum of money possibly up to N500,000.

Dude sold the song to Davido. He produced and wrote it, all of a sudden they are saying Shizzi produced it, a studio rat and close friend to Password told KREST  in anonymity. KREST could not immediately confirm this story.

It isn’t a big deal or something new though; song writers sell music pieces all the time. Most times, producers, music composers and songwriters record original compositions and trade their songs to bigger artistes.

Examples are in the hundreds – US acts Ne-Yo, The Dream, Frank Ocean, Stacy Barthe, Keri Hilson are all credited to have written some of the biggest songs of the past decade. And on the home front we have former Cobhams Asuquo protege Omolara (who wrote Chidinma‘s ‘Kedike‘ and Praiz‘ ‘Rich and famous) OJB Jezreel (who wrote 2face’s 2004 hit ‘Right here’) to mention a few.

What however makes ‘Gobe’ peculiar is that it had been previously released as an official single.
Both parties have not been responsive to queries over the matter but after numerous comments were made on music blogs and social networks Twitter and Facebook about the stunning similarities between the songs, Davido and Password are now very vocal on Twitter about the matter.

They noticed people had found out, it’s like Password didn’t tell Davido that he had released the song before he sold it‘.

Davido was smart enough play along. This afternoon, he tweeted; Big ups 2 @iamshizzi and @iam_password for such a great combination of work for GOBE! More stuff 2 come HKN!
Password was also very co-operative as he also tweeted in support; The song Gobe was officially replaced by @iam_davido hu co-wrote on d new version and I @iam-password is very happy and satisfied.

HKN in-house producer also tweeted; Follow my gud friend @iam_password and thanx to him and d inspiration we all put into gobe! Cc”@iam_Davido.

DAREY SPLASHES N300M ON "LOVE LIKE A MOVIE" CONCERT.

Words:Adedosu 'kenzy' Adekunle

It’s a been over a week since R&B king Darey held Lagos spellbound with his ‘Love Like a Movie’ concert but those who attended the memorable event are still talking about the unforgettable experience.

Darey set high standards on Sunday, February 17, 2013 at the Convention Centre of the Eko Hotel and Suites, doing something that had never been done before. Where should we start? The jaw dropping vertical stage, the over 20 professional choreographers, flying over Kim Kardashian (and her entourage), the flamboyant costumes, The stunt-acrobats from Italy, One could go on and on.

You saw the output of what had been planned for weeks and like the headline suggests, hundreds of millions went into producing what might just be the best concert ever held in Nigeria.

Let’s do a quick breakdown…

Using the full Convention Centre of the Eko Hotel and Suites for a one-day event costs around N25M. Darey’s label Soul Muzik booked the hall for a week to setup the vertical stage, lighting and projectors, prep the choreographers and give time for over five days of rehearsals.

We’re told over 100 rooms were booked for hotel accommodation at the Eko and nearby Hotels – this included meeting rooms, personal rooms for performers, guests and crew members and also feeding. A standard room at Eko Hotels costs between N40-60, 000. One Soul Muzik source says the hotel were ‘support sponsors’, although we could not confirm this.

There are no specific costs for the vertical stage but experts says it may have gulped up to N60m, this would also include the lights and projectors.

On Kim Kardashian’s visit, there have been a lot of speculation – but we can tell you it’s far from the outrageous amounts you’ve heard. There’s no word on how much Kim K was paid but from what we gathered Kim charges from $150K (N24m) upwards for appearances like the one she did for LLAM.

Then there was the massive publicity – insiders say Darey rode on partnership deals with AIT, Beat FM, BHM, Cool FM and hundreds of blogs, newspapers and magazines. But there was a lump sum attached to the ubiquitous online ads deployed using AD Dynamo and Google’s ADwords. PR and Advertising experts who spoke with NET say it’s okay to put publicity cost at around N100m.

No figures were immediately available for Kaffy’s Imagneto the dance group but we can tell you most of the artistes, including 2face Idibia performed as support for Darey and Soul Muzik.

Then there were the numerous flight expenses – Kim K and her crew (she came in First Class aboard Air France, with Kanye West’s aide and bodyguard and at least two others), and the choreographers from Europe, not to add the cost of costumes, props, transportation etc.

Money well spent, if you ask. Especially as everyone agrees Darey pulled all the stops to challenge stereotypes and give Nigerians a concert they wont forget in a hurry.

NET gathered it took over six months to put the concert together, with Darey and his crew flying all over the world to seal deals and scout for rare acts. And, the Abuja-based singer moved temporarily to Lagos early this year, to focus full time on the event, according to sources who spoke with KREST.

But the big question is who brought all that money to the table? Inside sources say Soul Muzik made initial investment covering most of the cost thanks to VIP table sales. Then there was also support sponsorship from First Bank and Fayrouz. There’s no word yet on what each company coughed out – but both are not known to be heavy spenders.

"YOU NEED TO GET A DEGREE" DAVAIDO'S FATHER TELLS HIM.

Words:Adedosu 'kenzy' Adekunle

They say the biggest legacy a parent can leave for his-her children is education. Every parent no matter the circumstances strives hard to live up to that statement and so is Nigerian billionaire businessman Deji Adeleke who seems hell bent on seeing one of his sons David ‘Davido’ Adeleke attending and graduating from University like every other child.

The last two years have been a handful for Davido – he didn’t just make a very successful debut in the Nigerian music scene but accelerated to the A-list spot, something that has taken other A-listers years to achieve. He’s released a debut album with chart topping singles, won international awards and performed in and out of the country, what else could he ask for?

Well, Davido isn’t doing the asking, his father is; more like demanding. Sources say Mr Adeleke wants his son to enrol in a University and graduate with a degree.

And to make that happen, he has reportedly built an entire department at Babcock University (where he is currently a provost) for Creative Arts which will have Davido and his manager Kamal as the only students for now.

We’re told he has also bought a dedicated car which take the boys to and from school as they work to combine academic commitments with show business.

Davido and Kamal (who had to go back to school because of Davido’s father’s insistence) are using the opportunity to bond, a source tells us.

It is also likely his celebrity cousins Bayo ‘B.Red’ and Sina ‘Sinarambo’ Adeleke will be joining them soon.
‘Davido’s dad believes a lot in his music and HKN. He thinks David can take it to the next level but he also feels education is compulsory foundation for his son’, a source to the family tells us.

We learn he has been helping to put up necessary structures that’ll ensure the boys don’t mess things up. For starters, Mr Adeleke insists on meeting with everyone working with his son. And the young pop star has so far been co-operative. Davido’s mother Vera, an educationist herself was until her death in 2003, a lecturer at Babcock University.

FRESH FACTS ABOUT "WIZKID" AND "EME" BREAK-UPS.

 Words:Adedosu 'kenzy' Adekunle

The inevitable battle line has been drawn; what was once considered an enviable model set up by thriving record label EME, is now being torn into shreds by a recent alleged fall-out between Pop singer Wizkid and the label’s management.

You read it right: Ayodeji ‘Wizkid’ Balogun is at war with his label Empire Mates Entertainment and might just be walking out of his record deal for good. The pop singer’s recent outburst on social media Twitter and Instagram has confirmed weeks, even months of rumoured disagreement between both parties.

Details are sketchy but we can confirm there’s a lot of bad blood between Wizzy (as he is fondly called) and EME which is run by label executives Banky W and Segun Demuren (Demuren plays a more background role but is fully involved in executive decisions).

The controversy started many months ago – tongues started wagging when Wizkid fired his manager Osagie Osarenkhoe and hired long-time friend Godwin Tom in September 2012. Godwin Tom, we learn had been pitching Wizkid to several labels since 2007 before Osarenhkoe came into the picture and introduced him to EME, the label that groomed him and push his career to the very top.

Sources say EME were not pleased with the move to fire Osarenkhoe, but gave in to Wizkid’s demands. The label retained Osarenkhoe to manage EME”s other acts – Skales, Niyola and Shaydee. Wizkid has now also signed an international management deal with UK based Disturbing London, run by rapper Tinie Tempah. The young singer has been in England for weeks now.

Insiders say Wizkid has also moved out of the EME ‘mansion’ in Lagos and acquired his own home in Lekki Phase 1, this was shortly after he bought his BMW X6 auto-mobile late last year. The distance became glaring; the core of the squad had detached himself from unit.

Sources who spoke with KREST anonymously say Wizzy would come late to public appearances and Banky would spend the whole time apologizing. They would always come separate to any gig. It looked like Wizzy and Godwin had formed their own team and didn’t need them Banky anymore‘, an inside source told this newspaper, Saturday.  It also showed emotionally; Wizkid was not seen at most of the rehearsals for their concert in December. He appeared at the later stage and rarely talked with the crew. ‘But they all tried to suppress what was going on; only the in-house team knew the whole truth‘.

KREST investigations gathered that concerned parties tried desperately to keep the young superstar under control, but nothing, it seems, would work.

On Friday, February 1, 2013, the first bombshell dropped: Wizkid took to twitter and Instagram to make subliminal remarks about his label. Don’t take Loyalty for stupidity..don’t!’, ‘Moving on to start all over again!…Fuck it!..‘, and went on to say ‘If dey sleep on u..move on!‘.

It came as a shock to fans worldwide; especially coming barely days after Banky W’s interview assuring fans Wiz was not leaving the label and that rumours of his departure were false.

The controversy continues with Wizzy updating his Twitter profile, removing ‘EME/Konvict’ and replacing it with his management’s contacts.

Wizkid is the one hurt, that’s why he is the one talking, he will still say more‘, one source tells us, even as many who claim to be familiar with the situation say ‘the problem is that he thinks he’s grown too big for the label and he’s suddenly forgotten where he’s coming from and the many sacrifices Osagie and Banky especially had to make to help him grow‘.

No word from both camps as EME and Wizzy’s management remain mum over the matter. Godwin Tom did not respond to repeated enquiries even as an EME executive failed to get back to us despite promising.
In less than one year, there have been quite a number of fallouts with artistes parting ways with their record labels. The most controversial still remains the Mo’Hits saga with D’banj and Don Jazzy breaking ties back in February 2012.

Others include May D getting thrown out of Square Records, Flowssick parting with Kollertunz Records because he failed to sign his artiste contract, Yung6ix dropping the 411 Entertainment label, fully pitching his tent with Storm Records and urban Hip-Hop group L.O.S dropping BankHead Entertainment to fully sign with Storm Records.

There are so many unanswered questions but we have a strong feeling more events will unfold. The biggest question for now is will Wizkid make an appearance at Banky W’s February 15 concert?

FACTS OF BREAKING UP WITH EME:

The EME And Wizkid Situation.

1. Wizkid is a Nigerian citizen (true fact).

2. Wizkid is a self proclaimed “studio rat.” As early as11 years old, he was already singing.

3. By 2006, he got his break with Nigeria’s famed artist OJB (true fact)

4. In 2009, at 19years old, Wizkid got an even bigger break when he began working with
Nigerian-American R &B super star Banky W’s Empire  Mates Entertainment Record label. (True fact)

5. Wizkid already put a lot of the hard work on the talent side before he met EME. From 2009 onwards, EME focused on the branding, artist development, marketing and promotions of Wizkid. (True fact)

6. Within and outside of Nigeria, there was NO LEGAL CONTRACT signed between EME and Wizkid.
(Alleged).

7. About March 2012, when fans and the public screamed in excitement about the EME Wizkid UK Tour, Wizkid still did not have a legal contract. However, as a condition to perform in the UK and to get visas granted, the hosting country (UK) required a record contract evidencing Wizkid was signed to EME. EME, in a rush, put a contract together for Wizkid. (Alleged)

8. The EME-Wizkid contract (the first signing of a record deal) had a term requiring a 7 album deal. They promised this contract will be amended to the “real contract” later. (Alleged)

9. Wizkid signed the 7 Album contract, without reading the terms. (Alleged)

10. Prior to the signing, monies were split between the two in a 50/50 way i.e. monies made from concerts/ tours were split evenly. (Alleged)

11. In April of 2012, EME announced a joint deal, in a press statement, with Akon’s Konvict.
EME claimed Akon would “produce and release Wizkid worldwide” while EME managed Wizkid in Nigeria. (True Fact).

12. Before we could blink, all of a sudden, Wizkid signed a management deal with Tinie Tempah in the
UK. Really? (True Fact).

13. Banky W & EME allegedly never negotiated or agreed to such a deal. Wizkid directly negotiated and signed with Tinie Tempah. (Alleged)

14. Wizkid fronts his own label “Star Boy” under the blessings and umbrella of the EME label. (Alleged)

15. As it stands, the relationship between the EME crew and Wizkid has deteriorated to the point where Wizkid no longer speaks to members of the EME team, including Banky W. All correspondences are filtered through his new manager Godwin Tom (Alleged).

16. Wizkid wants more money and he wants out i.e. reduce the 7 Album deal. He feels slighted because EME promised they would sign a new contract with him and now they want to hold his feet to the fire on their 7 album contract. (Alleged).

POPULAR BLOGGER "LINDA IKEJI" ACQUIRES NEW AUTOMOBILES.

 Words:Adedosu 'kenzy' Adekunle

Popular blogger Linda Ikeji is laughing all the way to the bank, thanks to the art of blogging.

Now sitting comfortably in the millionaires’ lounge, the former model, whose blog is one of the most visited sources for entertainment news and gossip in Nigeria, recently posted pictures of her new car, a 2011 Infinity FX 35 SUV worth about N8 million.

Prior to acquiring the SUV, the 31-year old bachelorette owned a 2008 Toyota Camry which she bought two years ago.

The second child in a family of nine, Linda bought a multi-million 5-bedroom duplex in Surulere for her parents just two months ago.

Linda’s blog reportedly rakes in an average of N3m a month from adverts from various brands and online ad networks, which makes her the highest earning blogger in Nigeria. A celebrity in her own right, Ikeji was a popular model for many years, and a magazine publisher before discovering blogging having stumbled on BellaNaija.

But it is blogging, she admits, that’s given her the fame and fortune she’d always dreamt off. Last December, she was included in a 17-man tour of American cities, organized by the American Consulate. Featured on Forbes and many other local and international media, she’s the most decorated and celebrated blogger in Nigeria, using gossip and human interest content to capture the hearts of millions around the world.

Often criticised by celebrities and many of her subjects mostly for third party comments on her blog, and by many traditional magazines and newspapers who were the source of her content for many years, Ikeji is not exactly everyone’s darling. But she’s almost everyone’s dar ling. Not bad. Even the popular Chinese blogger Han Han, possibly the world’s most popular blogger, is not loved by all; despised especially, by many conservatives who consider him a rebel writer.

The English Language graduate of the University of Lagos began her advent into entertainment as a striving model while in UNILAG. She modeled for several brands, including the ‘Rose of Sharon’ label owned by former President of the Fashion Designers Association of Nigeria (FADAN) and Nigerian billionaire and oil tycoon, Folorunsho Alakija.

I told myself that I will make it in this life one day as my own woman and on my own terms, that no man will ever take away my dignity…and I did it’ she wrote on her blog, Monday, after publishing photos of her new SUV. That article got all of 1618 comments.

As she continues to nurture that fan base and build on an incredible success, pundits say the next steps will determine the future of the blogger and her model. Whatever happens, Miss Ikeji has changed her life and that of her family; she’s eating her cake and having it – blogging for fun while making enough money to ensure she doesn’t have to do anything else, at least for now. And she’s inspiring thousands of young Nigerians who are familiar with her grass-to-grace story; thousands hoping to someday be their own Linda Ikeji, on their own terms…

VIDEO: WATCH HOW "TEE BILLZ" PROPOSED TO " TIWA SAVAGE".

 Words:Adedosu 'kenzy' Adekunle

It’s confirmed! After months of denial and hiding, R&B-Pop singer Tiwa Savage and her manager Tunji ‘Tee Billz’ are now officially engaged! Tee Billz made a formal proposal to Tiwa Savage on February 5, 2013, her birthday, and just nine days before Valentine’s Day.

The romantic moment was witnessed by a few celebrity friends, including Tiwa’s Mavin Records boss Don Jazzy, Dr SID, Banky W, Beat FM Personality Toolz and several others.

The pair had consistently denied the relationship, and when marriage rumours surfaced weeks ago, their denials became even more vehement. But the past few days proved they had gotten tired of living a lie, with photos and tweets from Lagos and Dubai confirming what they’d been trying to hide.I am not engaged and I am not dating Tee Billz. If I am, you would have seen a ring on my finger indicating that I am engaged. It’s just a rumour, she told Encomium in December 2012.

But the rumours re-emerged when the pair flew to Dubai and checked into the luxurious Burj Al Arab Hotel, spending time together, taking boat cruises and seemingly enjoying a luxury couples vacation.

Sources even suggested that Tiwa and Mr Balogun had gotten married, and that the Dubai trip was their honeymoon.

On the morning of February 5th, 2013, Tiwa’s 34th birthday, Tee Billz reportedly updated his BlackBerry Messenger status to ’Happy birthday Mrs Billz.‘  Tiwa also posted two cakes on her Instagram page. The inscription on the first cake read ‘Happy birthday Mrs Billz‘.

‘The power to deny their relationship grows weaker by the day, they are really in love with each other’, a source close to the couple told us. ‘Now that they have announced their status to everyone, the tension will cease.’

Congrats guys! More pix and videos here.......

"PLEASE COVER YOUR BOOBS" CBS ISSUES ADVICE TO GRAMMYS AWARDS GUESTS.

Words:Adedosu 'kenzy' Adekunle

CBS TV Network has issued a wardrobe advisory to the guests who will be attending the 55th Grammy Awards this Sunday, February 10, 2013.

The TV network is advising the ‘scandalously clad celebrities’ and ‘flash bearers’ to cover up their bodies before making their way to the awards ceremony.

Please be sure that buttocks and female breasts are adequately covered, the statement opens…
‘Thong type costumes are problematic. Please avoid exposing bare flesh under curves of the buttocks and buttock crack. Bare sides or under curvature of the breasts is also problematic. Please avoid sheer see-through clothing that could possibly expose female breast nipples’, the statement continues.

Somehow we feel CBS is directly talking to the usual suspects – Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna and Lady Gaga.

CBS is also advising for guests not to wear clothing that reveals its maker.

The yearly awards show has had its fair share of ‘controversial and revealing’ red carpet instances in the past. Here are a few pictures NET gathered from past editions of the Grammy.
