EME MATES "WIZKID BANKY W AND SKALES" IN A SUPPOSED FRAUD WITH US FANS.

Words:Adedosu 'kenzy' Adekunle

Nigerian fans in Oakland,California have sincerely expressed their disappointment at EME record label for cancelling Wiz-kid concert which was to hold tomorrow Friday, August 17, 2012.

As we gathered, after the boss himself "Banky W" cancelled his show in July 2011, efforts by some fans, who had earlier bought ticket for the show, to get refund of their money or get the show rescheduled as promised by EME has been successful.

The 2011 tour was then organised by Royal Entertainment. After much hype made on that concert and the almost sold out ticket for the event, and its eventual cancellation, no refund was made. Reason for the cancellation, according to reports then was that Wizkid and Skales were denied US visas.

An apology released by Banky W which reads; "As far as the EME tour goes… it hurts me to say we tried our very best to pull it off. We did everything we were supposed to. Twice.

Truth is, there were some issues that are beyond our control, and we kept pushing, trying to resolve 'em. We worked hard and spent a sh*t load of money in the process… but it wasn't under our control.

In anycase, we're STILL working on resolving said issues. And the minute they are, we'll launch a couple of make up dates immediately. I want to give a shoutout to all the fans who have been so patient with us.

I promise, we're trying our very best. It sucks but we're trying. They say "U live and U learn". We've learnt too many painful lessons from this whole experience. We'll be back stronger in Jesus Name.

If you bought tickets already, ur entitled to a full refund. Trust me we'd rather be rocking with u than losing money, so, pls understand. And lastly, we will resolve these issues we're having. And the minute we do, we'll put together a couple of make up dates.

I'll be the first to let you know when that's happening, I promise'. Thank you, I'm very very sorry. But I promise we'll make it up. Stick with us we'll make this work."

After this apology, we garther from good authorities that up-till now, no refund has been made either by EME or Royal Entertainment, which promoted the concert.

That was in 2011.

On August 14, four days before the concert EME boss Banky W Twitter had announced the cancellation of the Wizkid tour; ‘"Hey folks...The Cali and Canada stops on the tour have unfortunately been cancelled. Due to circumstances way beyond anyone's control.

"Truthfully it takes a lot to put on a tour. A million and one factors go into it. Along the way, sadly, sometimes, inevitably, things go wrong. And when it's out of your control, there's not much you can do about it at that point but learn lessons and do better next time.

Truth be told, we take a pay cut while attempting something like this. A serious one. But that's okay cuz of the love the fans have shown us and the love we have for them in return. We're not in the business of blame games and pointing fingers. When poo hits the fan, we all look bad.

So our sincere deepest apologies go to the fans in Cali and Canada, who wanted to be at the shows.. You will get refunded 100% for ur tickets. On behalf of EME and the promoters, we're all very sorry about Cali and Canada. We will work tirelessly to make this up to the fans there.

With that being said DC, Chicago and ATL will definitely still be happening and we'll do our absolute best 2 make them the best shows possible. We really do appreciate all of the support, love and even the criticism.

We're working to make sure yall remain proud of us. Thank you. Thank u very much for your understanding. We appreciate you all. And we don't take any of you for granted. We wouldn't be here without yall.

Like I said, DC, Chicago, and atlanta will still be happening; and we're going to put on the best shows possible for you guys there. Thanks again. God bless y'all. God go make all of us bigger. We're grateful and we Love y'all forever for sticking with us."

Royal Entertainment’s head promoter Azazel Noble however does not seem to be calmed by Banky’s tweets as he angrily took to his Twitter account and bore his mind.

‘N***z think releasing some bull***t press release absolves them of all guilt.. U been dreaming bro..‘, Azazel Noble (@Echecrates) tweeted.

‘Man how one label can just destroy concerts in Cali for a long time to come.. Nobody will believe any promoter doing a concert for awhile. Oh so it’s out of Control when it comes to California and Canada but when it comes to DC/ATL/Chicago control full ground. Man we got played. Lemme tell u what pisses me off bout this shit..Dem niggaz told us they wanted a thousand ppl in the buildin 4 the concert. That’s why niggaz was promoting like rapture was bout to come lol.. I’m not sure there are even a 1000k africans with Visas in Cali. So after all that promo dem wan leave homies with “somethinghugecameup”..Oloriburuku tinzz. Cancel all your tours and leave.. Cancel EVERYTHING!! Shey something came up? hit up ATL/CHICAGO/DC tell em the same thing’, Noble said.

We also gathered that there have been calls from the promoters to Banky W but he has reportedly refused to respond. When a fan (@ogidika) asked Banky W on twitter why the show was cancelled, he allegedly blocked him on twitter.

Some fans have accused Banky W of fraudulently duping them of their monies in broad day light. Some have called for the prosecution of the singer and should be made to pay compensation and make total refund of their money for the purchase of tickets for the show.

NORTHERN HIPHOP STAR "ZAKKY AZZAY" ACCUSE OF BATTERING BY WIFE.

Words:Adedosu 'kenzy' Adekunle

Things are definitely not the same for Nigeria's only Northern hip-hop star "Zakky Azzay" After a full successfully 8 years marriage that provided him three children with Hadiza Azzay has ended.

The marriage actually ended four months ago but we are all getting to know about it now because the ex-couple are involved in a bitter custody battle.

Pretty 29 year old Hadiza told journalist and a blogger "Linda Ikeji" that she packed out of her husband's house on April 17th after being badly battered the day before by Zaaki. She was able to leave with two of her children, but the third one, her eldest child, is still living with his father.

She further said he had been battering her for years, sometimes he would beat her so much she would faint, but her family kept telling her to go back to him for the sake of their children. She further by saying she left him twice last year but returned to him after much pressure from family and friends. But when the battery continued, she made up her mind to end her marriage for good because she didn't want to be another dead wife.

Hadiza was a housewife, so since leaving her husband she has been under the care of an NGO that takes care of battered women. They've given her and her children shelter and are taking up her case.

She will issue an official press statement telling her side of the story in the coming days...right now she's dealing with the police who arrested her for allegedly 'kidnapping' her own children. She says Zaaki has been using the police to harass her. We are also looking to get Zaaki's side of the story.

"AM GOING TO GET A GRAMMY SOON" POP SINGER DAPO OYEBANJO "D'BANJ" SAYS.

Words: Adedosu'kenzy'Adekunle

Bouncing towards me on his alligator-skin trainers, Dapo Daniel Oyebanjo opts for a one-armed hip-hop hug when at last we meet. Not only does he look the part – the shoes are by designer Philipp Plein, his T-shirt’s Calvin Klein and around his neck hangs a dazzling chain created by Jacob ‘The Jeweller’ Arabo, purveyor of ‘bling blings’ to the hip-hop elite – but he smells it, too: an almost suffocating cloud of lavender scent hangs in the air.

D’banj, as he shortens his name, is the biggest name in entertainment in Nigeria and has the potential to become the first-ever artist from Africa to compete on equal terms with any acts in the western pop firmament. It’s the brash, moneyed, sexy version of the continent – home to seven of the 10 fastest-growing economies in the world – that he represents. Today he is in the UK promoting his Top 10 hit Oliver Twist, a ribald account of the famous women he fancies, from Nicki Minaj and Rihanna to the Ghanaian actress Nadia Buhari. Recently he heard it being used as the background music to a party in EastEnders – precisely the sort of mainstream attention that he wants to receive.

It quickly becomes apparent that the 32-year-old, acclaimed by his peers back home in Lagos for his relentless drive, is difficult to stop once he’s on a roll. ‘I’m so excited – not just for me, but for the whole of Africa’,. Two years ago I said it’s time for me to take my music global because I’ve won all the awards back home.’ With his mentor, the producer Don Jazzy, he created the biggest record label in Nigeria, but ‘now I want to win a Brit award, a Grammy’.

‘Yes, we have MTV, yes, we sell millions of records and have endorsement deals, but we’ve never felt as if we’re part of the same music industry as the rest of the world – the Kanye Wests, the Adeles and Tinie Tempahs,’ he continues. ‘I see what I’m doing now as the bridge that we’ve been looking for from Africa to the mainstream world. I want others to see the potential in my country, other than our oil and natural resources. That’s what’s making me move. I feel like a new artist.’

The first time I laid eyes on D’banj it was in Abuja, the Nigerian capital, in late 2008, when he waltzed away with three accolades including Artist of the Year at the first-ever MTV Africa Awards. Just before he turns up for our encounter in London, the ebullient Bankulli, his manager, shows me footage on YouTube of him on the promo trail in the UK, visiting a school in Plumstead demonstrating how to do the ‘Oliver Twist’ dance to a background of shrill screams from the pupils. It’s not just hard to think of another African artist who’d engender such a reaction at a south London secondary school, it’s tricky to think of that many homegrown pop stars who could incite quite as much hysteria. But over the past three or four years, there’s been a growing appetite for what are styled ‘Afro beats’ among that key pop demographic in this country.

Listen to DJ Abrantee‘s show on Choice FM on Saturday nights or DJ Edu on Radio 1 Extra with his Destination Africa programme on Sundays and you’ll hear the likes of Sarkodie and Efya (from Ghana) or Psquare, Wizkid and – especially – D’banj (all from Nigeria). Rickie Davies runs a website promoting Afro beats in the UK, and she describes ‘a real shift in perceptions among audiences in the UK. No one’s talking about this as if it’s ‘world music’,’ she says, ‘or alien to the culture here.’ Abrantee told me recently of the deeper impact of this burgeoning scene. ‘When I was growing up in London’, he said, ‘you never let on that your family came from Africa – it was too embarrassing. Everyone pretended they came from the Caribbean. But suddenly black kids from Ghana or Nigeria are saying it’s cool to come from there.’

‘It’s very humbling, my success here,’
D’banj says. <b>‘Coming from Africa – Nigeria – doing music for a decade there… it’s a different world.’

Ten days earlier, I’d flown to Nigeria to meet D’banj, and ended up on a whistle-stop tour of the Lagos nightlife scene with one of his younger peers. Ice Prince arrives at the Oriental Hotel with an entourage that includes his own bodyguard, a figure so strapping that he’d be slightly intimidating even without the Soviet assault rifle. As he explains, over the culinary challenge that is a bowl of egusi soup in a fast-food joint in the upmarket district of Lekki, he’s simply there to intimidate the sort of crazy fans that any fledgling pop star will encounter.

‘I can’t normally eat in a place like this’, Ice Prince explains. ‘I just get too much attention’. Instead he has a cook at home, and when he drives around the city in his white Land Rover, his assistant will pull bundles of naira banknotes out of a black bin liner to shower on the crowds who surround him – both a bid to distract them and, as it’s explained to me: ‘It’s expected of you here. If you don’t, people will start saying God thinks badly of you’.

In a nutshell, the 25-year old Panshak Zamani, who grew up in the northern city of Jos, listening to the likes of South African reggae star Lucky Dube and his pop counterpart Brenda Fassie – he now counts Jay-Z as his favourite artist – is living the life that he describes in his hit ‘Superstar’. ‘Better cars, better clothes on me/Better parties, better houses and better girls on me…’ runs the chorus. ‘See I can take you there/Champagne everywhere/That’s the life we live.’

The story of the Nigerian pop scene as it exists today – with its videos showing fast cars and faster women – doesn’t date back much further than a decade and reflects the booming economy in the country. GDP has more than doubled since 2005 and the growing middle class has an appetite for the affluent lifestyle that figures such as Ice Prince or D’banj embody. The latter tells me that ‘it used just to be footballers who got endorsement deals, but now entertainment is attracting a lot of media and investors, too.’

Ice Prince is contemplating offers from a drinks company and a telecoms outfit at the moment. Acts such as his can earn up to £20,000 for a live show – and without that income, rampant piracy would mean the music industry in the country would barely exist. Instead, in the absence of global players such as Sony and Universal, four or five labels – including Ice Prince’s Chocolate City, Storm Records, Kennis Music and EME Music, and D’banj and Don Jazzy’s Mo’Hits – have competed for success.

‘There’s been mad growth in the music industry here,’ Ice Prince says, while acknowledging the problems with publishing and the collection of royalties. Nonetheless: ‘If you go to a club or a party in Lagos, 80% of the music that you’ll hear is Nigerian, which never used to be the case.’

Factor in the advent of MTV and other cable channels across Africa, – including Channel O, BET (Black Entertainment Television) and the French network Trace – plus the new power of Twitter and social media, and little wonder that when an artist such as Ice Prince plays a show in Malawi, he’s greeted by crowds numbering in their thousands. He shows me footage of a recent gig on his Mac PowerBook. ‘This is new. They might not understand our patois, but the fans there know us from TV, and we’re famous right across the continent.’

Ice Prince has a gig to play in Abuja this evening, so he leaves me in the care of the most celebrated hip-hop star in the country, M.I, meaning Mr Incredible (or Jude Abaga, as he was christened). His posse – that’s now me, incongruously; the producer Kid Konnect and another rapper, the brilliant Loose Kaynon – end up swigging Hennessy at a party called SLU…shh in a mansion in Lekki where other acts including Davido and Tiwa Savage freestyle on the mic by the swimming pool. Come 3am the next day, we’re in Number 10, the nightclub on Victoria Island owned by Jay-Jay Okocha – the most famous Nigerian footballer of all time (later MI even introduces this drunken foreigner to him).

The following afternoon there’s a gig at the Teslim Balogun stadium: Coca-Cola is sponsoring a youth football tournament and paying for the accompanying entertainment. This means appearances between games from Davido, Brymo and then M.I himself. He sprints around the pitch, mic in hands, rapping along to the bellowing PA system, stopping only to goad members of the crowd who aren’t fellow Arsenal fans, before sprinting to his waiting car and a hairy ride out of the stadium before the vehicle is mobbed.

From there I head to the airport, regretting only that the figure I’d travelled to Lagos to see never actually materialised: D’banj himself. One of his representatives did arrive at the hotel with a bottle of Moët & Chandon and a Koko mobile – from his own branded mobile-phone line, launched last year – as gifts for me. But with it came the message that he’d preferred instead to go to the Cannes film festival with Kanye West – in order to help promote Kanye’s 30-minute movie Cruel Summer, shot in Qatar and featuring several artists signed to his G.O.O.D Music label, among whom D’banj can now count himself.

Born in Zaria in northern Nigeria to a military officer and a businesswoman, D’banj grew up just north of Lagos, becoming interested in music following the death of his 17-year-old brother Femi in an air crash in 1994. ‘I arranged all his possessions on his bed after they were brought home and just picked up his harmonica. I’d play it to remember him.’ Later, at university, he realised what his new skills with the instrument could bring him. ‘I’d go to the female hostel after lectures, and even if there was no electricity I could play there.’ He remembers learning Celine Dion’s ‘My Heart Will Go On’ after Titanic came out – ‘and that got me a lot of girls!’

Plans to continue his studies as a mechanical engineer in London were derailed when he arrived in the UK in 2001 and met Don Jazzy. The 18-year-old – born Michael Collins Ajereh – had also come from Lagos and was trying to make it as a songwriter and producer, working with acts such as Big Brovaz (career highlight: the song they contributed to the soundtrack of Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed). D’banj started hanging around the studio, making ends meet with work as a security guard. ‘It was OK, because I did nights,’ he says, ‘so I could listen to music on my headphones.’

Don Jazzy told D’banj he thought he was a star in the making and, sensing that the music scene in Nigeria was ‘blossoming’, the pair returned to Lagos in 2004. That same year came the single ‘Tongolo’, the video paid for by D’banj’s mum – ‘Thank you, Mummy!’ – who’d hitherto been suspicious of his new-found calling, and then his first album, his first endorsement (with an energy drink called Power Fist) and ‘the rest is history’.

In fact, as Don Jazzy tells it, there was a definite plan with each landmark single. He’d clocked the success of Psquare across Africa, so with the next D’banj record, ‘Fall in Love’, he emulated their sound. With ‘Mr Endowed’, he went for ‘fist-pumping dance music’ – a risk at home in Nigeria, but it paid off in spades, and through the help of a mutual friend (jeweller Chris Aire), Snoop Dogg was brought in on a remix of the track. The impossibly infectious ‘Oliver Twist’ was a calculated attempt to crack the market in the UK. ‘I thought we could do with a sort of funky house sound. I thought: ‘It’s not like the music is that different from the music we listen to here.’‘

Listen to ‘Oliver Twist’, or Ice Prince’s ‘Superstar’, or P-Square’s ‘Chop My Money’ – which I heard blaring on Beat FM all weekend in Lagos, alongside the occasional likes of Carly Rae Jepsen’s ‘Call Me Maybe’ – and the production isn’t so dissimilar from any western pop hit. But as Ice Prince told me, there’s definitely an indigenous feel, too: ‘There’s a lot of American and UK influence, but the present Nigerian sound is really influenced by highlife and juju music. We made it a bit funky, a bit more modern.’

Prior to the likes of 2face Idibia and the brothers in Psquare and D’banj, the biggest name in Nigerian music remained the late Fela Kuti, and Don Jazzy cites the influence of his ‘Afro beat’ sound, too. It’s a source of some irritation that what he calls his ‘Afro pop’ is termed ‘Afro beats’ in the UK, when ‘what we do now sounds totally different’.

With D’banj, Jazzy built Mo’Hits records, also signing the likes of Wande Coal. But earlier this year, the pair split, following D’banj’s decision to sign to Kanye West’s label and relocate on a more or less permanent basis to the UK and US.

In D’banj’s telling of it, he and his entourage were in the first-class lounge at Dubai airport in November 2010 after playing a gig when a stewardess approached with a name card that said ‘Mr Kanye West’. ‘I was looking fly – if you know anything about D’banj, you know I’m always looking on point. I say: ‘Dress how yon: ‘That means Kanye West is coming, let’s get rolling… Eyes open!’ Then we saw him, checking in, wearing a hoodie. I said: ‘If I get five minutes, I will take it. I’m an African man! I will not waste it!’ And he came and five minutes became 30 minutes and he held my plane for me, because I would have missed it. In fact the first thing he said was: ‘I like your dress sense…’‘

Mr Endowed.

The story of D’banj’s split with Don Jazzy has dominated the Nigerian entertainment press all year. The week after I leave Lagos there are even (false) rumours that D’banj has been shot by three gunmen near Kanye’s Atlanta residence, then rushed to the city’s St Joseph’s hospital and is dying from his wounds. There doesn’t seem to be much substance to the idea of hostilities, although Don Jazzy did cut a slightly forlorn figure when I met him in his half-built mansion in a gated compound on the outskirts of Lekki. ‘Every day I’d wake up, I’d be scared to look at the newspaper or go to the internet to see what people are saying now,’ he said. ‘It’s been blown out of all proportion.’

While he also has a deal with GOOD Music as a producer, Jazzy intends to concentrate on his new venture, MAVIN records, and those acts still signed to him, including Dr SID, Tiwa Savage and Wande Coal. He says now of D’banj: ‘he’s a very ambitious person and he works hard: I give it to him. I’m glad that we’ve been able to get to the point where he can go to the UK and the US and stand as a man. I don’t need to be carrying him – there’s other people who need help here now.’

When D’banj and I do meet, he’s mollifying. ‘It’s like we were married – a very successful marriage,’ he says, ‘and we just had a divorce.’ There are also those voices, he knows, who think that now he’s tasted success in the UK, he’ll turn his back on Nigeria, but he’s adamant. ‘I can’t wait for the world to see what we have in Africa. I tell Kanye and everyone, I’ve got rappers back home who can really rap. MI is going to murder everybody! I had a vision that I want to be global,’ he says, ‘but I don’t want to change my Nigerian identity, I don’t want to change my style.’

In person, he radiates such easy-going star quality that it’s impossible to begrudge him anything, or to think that he won’t help pave the way for others. (In fact, just days after we speak, Ice Prince joins him on the bill for the BBC’s Hackney Weekend festival).

The final question I put to him – and it’s the sort of question that a lot of his peers in the UK and US would shirk – is whether his Afro beats hold a mirror up to society in the same way that Fela Kuti’s did. D’banj argues that today’s stars are simply reaping the rewards of battles Fela won, that ‘things are better – there’s not just freedom of speech. For instance, we’ve got social media.’

At the last Nigerian elections, D’banj was courted by presidential candidate Goodluck Jonathan and filmed a video in support that was subsequently credited with ensuring his success. Any flak that the singer attracted as a result deters him little – even if the raging fuel-subsidy issues in the country have overtaken the promise in his clip on YouTube of ‘no shortage of fuel and kerosene’. Perhaps it’s a reminder that on any road to progress there are always setbacks.

‘We’re enjoying democracy now,’ D’banj insists, ‘and the economy is on the up and up. There’s also been so much negative coverage of Nigeria,’ he continues, ‘but I like to think that the message I preach through leading the lifestyle that I do is: anyone can make it.’

WIFE "LADY D" DEFENDS HUSBAND'S "CHARLY BOY" SEXUALITY

Word:Adedosu 'kenzy' Adekunle

The wife of an entertainment entrepreneur Charly Boy’s wife, "Lady D" has forcefully dispelled the rumours going around on the internet and media, about her husband’s sexuality and position as head of Illuminati in Nigeria.

She dispelled the rumours in an interview she recently granted a tabloid newspaper "Compass Newspaper" where she denied the accusation, stating categorically that her husband, "Charles Oputa", a.k.a "Charly Boy", is neither a gay nor head of an illuminati.

She added that scandals of such nature had been reported before and must have been triggered by the opinion people have of him, which she says is misconstrued.

‘This is not the first time it’s happening, the only difference may be due to the context through which the rumour went viral…but realistically, there is nothing new about the rumour, we have heard it over and over again…I think people try to merge his personal life and artistic life. Obviously, they cannot be same’ , she said adding that she was married to Mr Oputa and not Charly boy, a fact which she says has blessed their 35-year-old union.

She spoke further on the Charly boy brand, stating that it was designed to stand the test of time and propel people into serious thinking, ‘Charly boy had always hated the fact that someone should live the life of others…he only wanted to be himself…he wanted in a very aggressive and way to build a brand that will become an all time favourite to young people…but before then, we knew that controversy would sell quicker than anything else’ she says.

The African American singer- designer got married to Charly boy 35 years ago.

O.B.O'S CROONER "DAVIDO" LANDS HIMSELFS IN TROUBLE WITH A TAXI DRIVER.

Words:Adedosu 'kenzy' Adekunle

An unknown taxi driver named Femi Ajibola has reported fast rising pop singer, Davido to the Police for allegedly assaulting him and seizing his car. According to his report as contained in the Crime Digest column of PUNCH newspaper, the incident occurred on Sunday July 1, 2012 at about 5:30pm after he had received a phone call from Susie, one of his customers to come convey her and her friends to Beni Apartments, V.I.

‘The lady introduced her as Susie. She called me to come and pick her and her friend. They told me to come pick them up at Mobolaji Estate near Lekki Second Roundabout. Later, I took them to a hotel at Lekki Phase I to meet one of their friends. From there we left for Beni Apartment in Victoria Island’.

He continued his story adding that while waiting for the ladies at the gate of the hotel, he saw his clients running towards his car, being chased by Davido and four of his bouncers an in a bid to save the girls, he opened the door for them and turned on the car’s engine only to be stopped by Davido who hit his face and accused him of being the boyfriend to the girl.

"The girl was running towards me. I think the men had assaulted her. She said I should open the door for her so that she would enter. I opened the door for her; as she was about to enter the car, Davido caught up with her and slapped her face… He left the girl and faced me. He said I was the one that brought the girls, that I am their boyfriend. He knocked my face against the steering wheel of the cab. This made blood begin to come out from my ear drums. He seized my car keys and in the process, injured me...Before I knew what was going on, his four bouncers began to beat me up. They beat me severely and took my car keys from me and chased me away. This happened around 11 pm. I went to report the matter at the Bar Beach Police Station, which was the nearest one. I was asked to come back the next morning to report the case."

He further alleged that he realised that his N100, 000, a sum he was meant to deliver to his dealer, was stolen from the car after it was returned to him. According to him, he was not allowed to wind up his windows or take anything from the car before he was ordered by the bouncers to leave the car.

‘I had taken delivery of the vehicle about two weeks before the incident. I had paid my dealer N50,000 and the other N100,000 was in the car because I could not pay it in the bank. The money was in the car and since they had sent me away from the car, I could not retrieve it. The following day, I did not find the money in the cab. They did not even let me wind the car windows up before they chased me out. I noticed that the car was ransacked. I managed to obtain Davido’s phone number and called him. But he did not pick his call. So I sent him a text message. Thirty minutes after I sent him the message, someone picked up the call and promised to pass the message to him. I did not get my car key throughout that day. I went to the police station to file a report’ Ajibola said.

After trying to reach the singer without success, he along with some Policemen went to the girl, Sussie’s place who declined their demand for help claiming she wasn’t the one that assaulted or seized his car.

‘On the fourth day, I went to Susie’s house with the police. The ladies said they were not the ones that beat me. They said the only help they could render was to give me Davido’s address and that they had since settled their differences. The whole point of the police visit was to use the girls to get to Davido, but the girls made a phone call to an aunt of theirs and the policemen left them, saying that they were not the ones that assaulted me’ the cab driver said

A call was placed through to the singer, but upon picking it he fumed and boasted asking if the policeman knew who his father was. In the words of Ajibola, He warned the policemen not to threaten or intimidate him’.

Ajibola continued with his story, ‘One day, the DPO of the station assured me that they would make sure they get him. He was irritated by Davido’s boasting that he was immune to arrest. On July 13, one Sharon Adeleke asked me to come and collect the key of my car at 1004. I told her to come and meet me at the police station. She did not turn up till the DPO intervened. The DPO invited the Sharon Adeleke, she eventually came to drop the key of the car. I told them that I could not just collect the key of the car without documentation that they gave me the key of the car without a penny, though I lost money and my car got damaged. When I said this, the DPO told me that I did not look like someone that was worth N100,000. He said I have no proof that there was money in the car and that all he was after was to retrieve my car keys for me. He said that if I wanted to do anything I should go to court and he ordered me out of his office. Till this moment I have not received my car keys or an apology from the singer.’

However, Davido’s publicist, Valerie Obaze in her response to PUNCH, denied Davido’s involvement in the incident, ‘Davido has no knowledge of any incident involving the assault of a taxi driver or the illegal seizure of his car. He does not condone violence of any sort and will not be commenting on this untrue allegation’, she told PUNCH via email.

As at the time of this publication, calls, messages and mails sent to Davido’s manager, Asa Asika and publicist, Valerie Obaze to confirm the story, have neither been acknowledged nor responded to.

CHARLY BOY GOES TO CHURCH AS HE CLEARS AIR ON ALLEGED NUDE PICTURES AND ILLUMINATI LEADER.

Words:Adedosu 'kenzy' Adekunle

The article below you are about to read was sent to a popular blogger and ex-beauty queen "Linda Ikeji",which was sent to her by the press people who work directly with the area father himself "Charly Boy". In it, the area fada addresses the nude photos of him that went viral online some few days back, and also introduces the woman in him named Linda.

The news of Charly boy’s invitation to one of the new generation churches in Abuja on Sunday was no doubt visited with a lot of criticisms from some people who believed that it was rather a waste of time having the acclaimed Areafada in church.

The heavy criticisms that visited his invitation to This Ranch Sunday service was due to the latest nude picture of the social activist that has gone viral on the social media. Even with the objection, and the wave of gossips going round the internet, Pastor Gbenga Adenuga, the General overseer of ThisRanch church had insisted on bringing Charly boy to church in order to share his deep experience with his church members.

Despite people’s objection which the Areafada had considered normal, ThisRanch church hall at the silver-bird gallery was filled to capacity as different people trooped to the church in order to hear, and probably speculate about the Areafada’s preaching.

Areafada who was in church with his father, Rtd Justice Oputa, his mum, Lady D and staff of New Wave Productions and Taakra Academy arrived amid cheers from the congregation.

After some heavy prayers and worship songs, Charlyboy took the central stage, attending to some sensitive questions from the Pastor, Gbenga Adenuga. According to the Areafada "he was in church to share his experiences with the congregation who were mostly young people whom he believed needed to be encouraged. In his opening speech, the areafada said:I came to pray and to share my experiences with you, most important I came to pray that God should forgive us-Nigerians, our sins for all we have done to the country politically".

Responding to the question on whether Charlyboy believes in the hands of God in the life of an individual, the enigmatic social crusader had avowed that God, during creation had given each and every one of us our various gifts, and that it was left for that individual to get connected to the good things God has provided for them. According to the Areafada " we are all have been created in the image and likeness of God, and if that is the case, then God created all of us for a purpose, and that purpose can only be realized when one gets connected to it, through his own creative ingenuity".

Responding to the question on his recent nude picture, Charlyboy said, "I wonder if people are creative in this part of the world at all", stating that some of the shows put up by the brand were actually meant to express the freedom that Nigeria so desires but never came. He affirmed that no such nude picture was sent by the brand to the internet, but however advised Nigerians to begin to look at the most pressing political issues and all other positive things he had done in the country instead of wagging their tongues over some naked picture whose origin cannot be traced. According to CB, "It is all about the mindset, and I want to say that Nigerians of this generation only see, and believe in the façade and not in the reality"

Encouraging the congregations on how he got to where he is today, Charlyboy says " it took sheared determination, consistency, doggedness and tremendous focus to stand where I’m today" He narrated how he had spent 7 years in the village just to begin what his parents never really wanted him to do.

The shocking revelation in the church by Charlyboy was that he doesn’t smoke, drink alcohol nor womanize. He gave the difference between Charles oputa, Charlyboy and Linda, stressing that Charles Oputa is that responsible family man, with eight children and 12 grand children. Charlyboy, he said is never allowed to Mr. Charles Oputa’s house, referring to Charlyboy as a creation and a character. According to Charlyboy, there is a woman in him whose name is Linda. It is that Linda that wears make-ups. He said that Linda directs him on how to be compassionate like women. He stated that Linda was responsible for all the humanitarian works he had done over the years. According to him, without Linda, he couldn’t have done all that. “Linda was created to have to be compassionate like a woman” CB asserted.

Speaking on the present reality in the country, Charlyboy said, despite the rot, he was confident that things will one day change for the better. He stressed that he lives in Nigeria, but will never let Nigeria to live in him.

"HOW I MET MY FINANCEE" TEJU BABY FACE OPENS UP AS HE SET TO WED ON 1ST OF SETEMBER 2012..

Words:Adedosu 'kenzy' Adekunle

All plans are in full glare as Nigeria's finest Comedian and TV host, Olateju Oyelakin, "Tejubabyface" will be wedding his longtime fiancee, top model and former beauty queen, "Tobi Banjoko" on Saturday 1st of September 2012 at the Chapel of Light Interdenominational, Lagos State Secretariat in Alausa, Ikeja. Reception is at The Muson Centre in Onikan.

Their traditional wedding will hold on Thursday, 30 August 2012, at 10 Degrees Event Centre, Billings Way, Oregun, Ikeja, Lagos.

In an recent interview with Azuh Arinze of YES! Magazine, Teju, as he's fondly called by his peers opens up on how he met his beautiful bride to be and why he decided to settle down with her. Read after the cut..

"Well, I kept coming home and my house kept feeling empty. I kept leaving events and finding there was someone I would like to tell the story, but there was no one. I just kept feeling lonely. There was a space in my heart that was crying out for friendship. But may be more importantly was the fact that I started making mistakes. I started making mistakes that I had made before and I thought it was over. People I shouldn’t have been fraternizing with, women. I started making all those kinds of mistakes and I wasn’t getting better. There was a point in my life when I was so disciplined that for almost two years, I wasn’t with any woman. And that was when the *Teju Baby Face Show* was born. And I found that thereafter, I could not seem to replicate the same discipline, no matter how I tried. So, it occurred to me that some thing had to change. So, when you put the loneliness together as well as my inability to be disciplined any more, it was instructive.

I met Tobi for the first in 2008. We were holding an audition for ushers. I wanted to have a show, my 2008 show that was called *Comedy Meets Class*. So, we wanted classy ushers. And at the time she was on her last ushering leg. I can remember I walked into a room filled with about 40 hot women. And she just hooked my eyes immediately. That was the first time I met her. With each of the 39 other girls in the room that day, our eyes would meet at some point. But this one studiously ignored me. It was as if she made a declaration that our eyes weren’t going to meet.

And when I actually interviewed her for the ushering job, she didn’t seem to care. She said the money was too small and she left. So, when I saw her a month later at another job, and I went to chat her up. I can never forget, she told me, ‘Excuse me, please I’m working’. What she meant was you are disturbing me, and I got the message (Laughs). And so, I started to find out more about her, and I found she was what you can call a ‘good girl’. But you see, that’s not enough. What you asked me was what made me decide? A pastor asked me that question recently. Let me use this word. When I told my father, when my father asked me, this girl you are serious about, what does she do? I said dad, she is a model.

He said explain yourself. I said well, she was in the recent *Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria*. Now, when you tell parents that, they don’t think that the girl is bad. On the other hand, they form a certain world view in that sense of the word. I had always said that the woman I would marry would be one who would be very beautiful. In 2010, we were trying to date first of all and we hung out after about three months, so we didn’t date again until 2011.

We tried to date in 2010, but it didn’t happen. My fault oh! In each of the time we tried to date, there was never any point in time where I had to do any convincing. In fact, on our first date, she came to my house and we needed to go and buy groceries so that we could cook together. And I remember we were walking across the street when I saw a Mercedes Benz, G-Class. And I pointed and said that’s my dream car. And this girl said, on our first date o! ‘Don’t worry, we will have it (Laughs). And I looked at her, then she blushed. And said no, no, no. That’s not what I meant. She has always been like that!

Before she came along, I was panicking; panicked as to how I would marry. Because you see, I was getting older, and there was nobody out there I wanted to marry. I really panicked. If I look at the list of everybody that I have met in the past years, they didn’t seem to be anybody that I wanted to marry. And I thought to myself that if I lived for thirty something years and I haven’t found a woman, what are the chances of me finding her next year, or in the next two or three years. And she just came along, and solved that problem. I am not marrying her because she's beautiful or because she makes me feel somehow. I am just comfortable with her. We are supposed to be married. It’s just like that".
