"I NEVER DATED GENEVIEVE" D'BANJ.

Words:Adedosu 'kenzy' Adekunle

In what seems as quikee, we catch up with young dude, who recently have been touring and he finally speaks on the widely reported affair with the Nolywood star actress in a recent interview... "We're close and we both understand that things couldn't work out" he say......excerpts:

Q: D'banj on the widely reported affair with actress Genevieve Nnaji?

I really can't remember, it cost between N4m to N5m. I 'm not too sure. But I think it's a beautiful idea if not for the way everyone is trying to go about it. I think Genevieve is a stunner I could date or love her. But we didn't date. She's my friend and a star you know. We're close and we both understand that things couldn't work out. That song was recorded two years before the video was released and it remains my biggest song ever. I wanted to make a statement with it. We had options of whom to use in the video, but at the end of the day, we saw that it's an African song and by that time I had already played it in about fifty weddings.

Am I good in bed? How I'm suppose to know? I think you should ask the women, but please don't ask a virgin. That song is misleading them. When you say how big is the koko?, then they want to see if it's that big. But when some come, they see what they either want to see or don't expect to see.

Q: So are you saying that the song has put you into a lot of trouble?

Yes, a lot of time. But to find a lady that really likes one genuinely makes me paranoid. Of late, I dated a lady called Dana and she doesn't even know that I'm a musician. I told her I'm a businessman. She's based in America and I like it. Is it wrong? Even if I date a foreigner, I still have to come back home.

Q: Are you saying you haven't met any Nigerian lady?

It's really hard to find because how will I know she likes me genuinely? My mother said I should go to Bishop Oyedepo's Church, Living Faith to find a wife.

MICHEAL JACKSON IS THE RICHEST DEAD CELEBRITY.

Words:Adedosu 'kenzy' Adekunle

Its been two(2)years now that he left us all with his Moon walker foot prints. The late pop music legend Michael Jackson for the second straight year is the richest dead celebrity. He earned more money than any other dead celebrity according to US publishing and media company, Forbes.

The magazine is well-known for its lists, says Jackson is estimated to have earned $170 million over the past year. Most of that money was earned in sales of music albums and memorabilia.

Forbes also lists the late ‘King of Rock and Roll’ Elvis Presley in second place on the list of ‘Top-Earning Dead Celebrities’. Presley made $55 million from the sale of music and a hit stage production in Las Vegas by the renowned Cirque de Soleil, featuring his songs.

Hollywood movie icon Marilyn Monroe was next in line, earning $27 million over the past year.

Rounding out the top five spots were ‘Peanuts’ cartoon creator Charles Schulz, who was fourth on the list. Iconic UK rock band The Beatles singer John Lennon was tied with another Hollywood movie legend, Elizabeth Taylor, for fifth place.

The Forbes list takes into account any deceased celebrity who earned at least $6 million between October 2010 and October 2011.

Michael Jackson has rarely been out of the news since his death in 2009 at age 50 from a drug overdose.

Jackson’s take of $170 million also makes him the second highest-earning pop music act of this past year, dead or alive. Only U2 the Irish rock band earns more.

"DONT DULL REMIX" WIZKID FEATURES AKON..

Words:Adedosu 'kenzy' Adekunle

Nigeria's Pop-Singer "Wizkid" indeed earned himself with the respect of world renowned singer and producer, "AKON".

When the news on Nigerian pop singer Wizkid working with Senegalese American R&B recording artist and songwriter Akon surfaced a few months ago, Nigerians were excited for the lad who has had it going for the past one year – a successful debut album plus performing at mega shows and hey don’t forget the ‘Next Rated’ prize that got him a ‘Hyundai Sonata’ at The Headies last weekend.

Mentored by Banky W, Wizkid is gradually getting international recognition and this will soon transform to more financial reward.

Wizkid has actually given us another example to show how much Nigerian artistes and their music are recognized by their foreign counterparts – the buzz keeps getting bigger and with the signing of Don Jazzy, D’banj and the Mo’Hits crew to Kanye West‘s G.O.O.D Music label, we can now safely say the gap has been bridged.

If ‘Don’t Dull’ remix is to be a hit song, it would be because of the pedigree of the acts on it. The combination is what we are ecstatic about not the song in its real self. Akon follows Wizzy’s singing pattern as he fixes in his own lyrics.

The song which was produced by Akon himself is remarkable.

AND THE WINNER ARE........."HEADIES AWARD 2011".....AT A GLANCE

Words:Adedosu 'kenzy' Adekunle

The Headies Awards went down last night at the Eko Hotel & Suites Convention Center with a star light of the biggest stars in entertainment.

It was a night of surprises and big thrills at the much anticipated 2011 edition of The Headies.

One of Africa’s biggest act "TUFACE IDIBIA" emerged as the biggest winner of the night scooping three plaques including two out of the big three awards!

The 36-year-old walked away with the awards for the Best R&B/Pop Album, Album of the Year and biggest award of the night Artiste of the Year. With ‘The Unstoppable International Edition’ released in 2010.

He surpasses some other contenders in the list like D’banj, M.I, Darey, Dr. SID, Duncan Mighty and Asa. It was all love though as even Don Jazzy climbed the stage to congratulate Idibia.

The highest and biggest nominee of the 2011 awards, Chocolate City’s Ice Prince walked away with two awards being the Best Rap Single and Song of the Year for the 2010 smash hit ‘Oleku’.

R&B king Darey and pop singer Dr. Sid were also double winners; the former won the awards for Best R&B single (The way you are) and Recording of the Year while the Mo’Hits crew member bagged his first ever awards for Best Pop Single and Revelation of the Year.

Wizkid won the Next Rated Award beating other contenders Tiwa Savage, oLamide and Ice Prince to win the coveted prize of a brand Hyundai Sonata!

It was indeed a surprised to see Kennis Music R&B singer Capital F.E.M.I win the award for the Best Vocal Performance (Male) over Darey, Bez and Timi Dakolo, it wasn’t much of a surprise to see veteran rapper Modenine pick up the award for Lyricist on the Roll for the sixth time in a row.

Performances at large; R&B singer Waje who won the award for Best Vocal Performance (Female) dazzled the crowd as she performed her ‘So inspired’ single along with Muna. M.I was also spectacular on stage; as though BrymO and Flavour where missing when he performed ‘Action Film’ and ‘Number one'.

It was however the Afro Juju king, Sir Shina Peters that had the best performance of the night as he got the crowd standing and singing to his 90’s classics…

Sound Sultan also surprised guests when he brought on stage comedienne Princess and Eniola Badmus (Gbo gbo bigz girls in the Jenifa movie) to perform his hit song ‘Orobo’.

It was nice to see Omawumi get back on stage after a hiatus as she gave a wonderful account of herself on stage. The singer who wore a two-piece lace attire, gave one of the nights best sets, delivering like a maestro that she now is, her ‘If you ask me’ single, backed by a 10-piece man band and supported by drama sketches by Gbenga Adeyinka and Tomi of ‘Tinsel’.

The biggest shock of the night was when Mo’Hits’ Dr. SID fumbled his performance on stage. The pop singer didn’t quite cue with the DJ who played the wrong performance CD.

The two time Headie winner started out for a few minutes then stopped abruptly as he apologized ‘I’ll come back guys’. Sid must have forgotten that his mic was on when he cursed out while at backstage ‘F***k’. Maybe if the singer had opted to a live band performance just like every other performer of the night had done and excelled at, the slip up might have been avoided.

The night’s hosts – eLDee and Rita Dominic unfortunately and surprisingly, performed below expectations. But eLDee occasionally managed to put his act together while Rita, a truly brilliant actress and performer goofed all the way, often upsetting her lines with poor attempts at stand-up or poorly delivered banters with eLDee who kept puffing a cigar.

Rita Dominic may go into record as the worst co-host the prestigious awards show has ever had. Thankfully, there were intermittent voice-overs from backstage guiding guests through the night’s event.

"WHAT WENT WRONG WITH TERRY G AND DUCAN MIGTHY DEAL" DON JAZZY

Words:Adedosu 'kenzy' Adekunle

In what seems a quick interview, we catch up with the boss and the CEO of Nigeria's greatest music label "MO HITS" ,DON JAZZY, he bares it all out for us and gave us an insight of what happen with the deal between "TERRY G" and "DUNCAN MIGHTY". Enjoy.

Q: Was Duncan Mighty ever on your label?

I like his music and he’s talented. And everybody knows I like to attend concerts. Once anyone has good music, I’ll be there to support. I didn’t get that much love from artistes when I was growing and I would have loved that. If I could attend Tuface, Daddy Showkey’s concerts, that’ll encourage us to move on. I also give them advice on a daily basis. So whenever I see someone with good music, I go all out to support him and it doesn’t have anything to do with competition.

Anytime my boys go to perform in Port-Harcourt, they always tell me that those guys there love Duncan Mighty. So I invited him to Lagos and he came to the house. I told the boys that I’d like to work with him. We had a meeting and I wanted to sign him or do a promotion deal with him. And since he’s also a producer, maybe he’ll be as a sort of co-producer for my label to help reduce some work load. But now, the same thing that happened with Terry G at some point happened. Because if it’s Mo’hits Records, everybody gets excited.

We haven’t signed any deal and he went ahead to tell people that he’s been signed to Mo’Hits. I was in America when I read on the internet that Duncan Mighty has been signed to Mo’Hits Records. And I hadn’t made up my mind yet about him. When I read it, I had to deny on the internet. I was hoping that after I’ve signed him, then I could tell everyone about it, but he took shine away from me. I called Bankuli and asked how the gist came about. I was told he’d already granted interviews saying he’s been signed on by Mo’hits to work as a producer and vocal coach. I ended the deal.

Q: What about the JJC thing?

We were working together but had a misunderstanding. I don’t want to start defending myself or say it’s his fault. I’ll gain nothing by putting him down.

"WE DIDNT ACCUSE BABA SUWE"....NDLEA

Words:Adedosu 'kenzy'Adekunle

Still on the trail, just barely after 24hrs that the accused "Baba suwe" had made plans in segueing the NDLEA.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, may have started singing a new song on why they have detained ace comedian, Baba Suwe, for nine days now.

The National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has denied ever accusing Nollywood actor, Alhaji Babatunde 'Baba Suwe' Omidina, of ingesting drugs in his body. Rather, the agency is blaming the media for over blowing the story and putting the agency in a precarious position all in a bid to gather scoops for themselves.

The Public Relations Officer of the agency, Mr Mitchel Ofoyeju, described Baba Suwe as a complete gentleman who is doing everything with- in his purview to assist NDLEAs investigation into whether he ingested drugs while attempting to travel out of Nigeria last week.

Ofoyeju said the comedian had been cooperating with the agency and was in good and healthy condition while the agency continued to detain him pending the final investi- gations into the case. The agency spokesman, who declined to comment on whether the suspect had excreted three times as being speculated in the Nigerian media, said that the actor remained innocent until proved otherwise.

"We have never told anybody that he carried drugs in his body. Baba Suwe is under observation just like it has been the case with every other suspected Nigerian passenger, the law is no respecter of anybody, we don't want to speculate about anything and we will make a comprehensive press conference on the case after we conclude our investigation. We are still investigating the case, well address the press as soon as we conclude our investigation on the matter, and we are not going to say anything until we conclude our investigations.

Like I said before, we have never said Baba Suwe was arrested for drug, it is the media that are writing this, we never said he was arrested for drug. On the temperament of the ace comedian, Ofoyeju has only praises for him."

"9ICE" SET TO RELEASE "BASHORUN GAA" AND "VERSUS".

Words:Adedosu 'kenzy Adekunle

The highly and much anticipated double albums "BASHORUN GAA" and "VERSUS" has prompted Nigerian born music superstar 9ice, to promote three singles prior to the release of the albums.

This move is seemingly being made to wet the appetite of awaiting fans and also to give an idea of what to expect from the proverbial lyricist who has undeniably created niche for himself that is yet to be matched.

The three singles, "SHAKASHIKI" from his Bashorun Gaa album, "ALL THE WAY" featuring the duo "P-Square" and "LONI NI" features the late Dagrin from his Versus Album are quite infectious upon first listen. These songs find 9ice giving us a refined, smoother, updated, version of the sweet melody he became famous for while still being delivered with a positive message in a mixture of Nigerian dialects, Pidgin and English.

9ice, who has apparently been busy working hard towards the release of both albums, has three previous albums under his belt titled "Certificate", "Gongo Aso" and "Tradition". In a feat no other indigenous Nigerian artist has attempted to try, the double albums "Bashorun Gaa" and "Versus" will be his 4th and 5th album respectively. He is also working on releasing videos for some of the major songs on the albums.

Bashorun Gaa has songs like Everyday, Display, Attitude, Juwonlo, 3310, Takoto, Buje Budanu, Shakashiki and many More. Versus has songs like Tempo feat Banky W, Life is beautiful feat 2face Idibia, Iya Alariya feat King Sunny Ade (KSA), Mayabiaku featuring Duncan Mighty, I Matter ft. Timaya, Health is Wealth feat K1 (Kwam 1 Ultimate) and more

BABATUNDE OMIDINA "BABA SUWE" SUES NDLEA FOR N1BILLION..

Words:Adedosu 'kenzy' Adekunle

Drama still persist on the trial of Nollywood Comedian,Babatunde Omidina a.k.a "BABA SUWE",as the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) said that the comedian would have to excrete up to five or six times for it to be fully convinced that he is innocent.

Baba Suwe was about catching a flight to Paris, France to attend a naming ceremony where he was to be a compere. He was suspected to have ingested some unidentified quantity of the hard drug after having been subjected to scanning.

However, Babatunde Omidina popularly known as Baba Suwe is planning a N1 billion suit against the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) over his recent arrest and detention.

He was arrested by the NDLEA on October 12 at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos and is still being detained.

The NDLEA had alleged that the 53-year-old actor had ingested substances suspected to be hard drugs, but there was no evidence to substantiate the claim even after the suspect had defecated thrice, under close observation.

His lawyer, Mohammed Bashir in interview on Wednesday said: ``We will be filing the suit before a Federal High Court in Lagos between now and Monday. ``We will be asking for N1 billion as compensation for damages suffered by him due to his illegal arrest and detention, as well as the embarrassment and defamation done to his reputation as a result of the incident,” he said.
